Making the Train

After our trip to Manhattan, we needed to take the train back home. When we arrived at Penn Station, Morgan asked, "How long do we need to wait for the train? Let's figure it out by reading the train schedule.

  • What time is the train to Ronkonkoma leaving?

  • If it's now 20 minutes past 4, how many minutes will we need to wait until 5:05?

  • What other information is important on the timetable?

Travelling is a fantastic way for children to learn and experience the importance of keeping track of time. Whether we travel by air or by train, I often make a point to show Morgan different examples of timetables. "What time is our plane departing?"
